Track and delete all copies
Posted September 25, 2009
on:Anything that’s posted online may be available long after you’ve deleted it from the original source. That’s because search engines and other web crawlers move around the internet indexing websites and making copies. Some sites reprocess online content without your knowing about it. So just because you delete something, it may still be available on the internet somewhere. A software that tracks your postings and deletes not just the original but all copies of it on the web would be very useful. You never know when you might post something you want to delete later.

which letter is most popular?
Posted August 21, 2009
on:could google count all the instances each individual letter appears on the web and then rank them by most use? i had this strange thought that if an article is written with words that make more use of the most popular letter people will probably read it faster. if such assumption holds true then a new software algorithm can be made to suggest edits on long texts for faster reading.
VISA Browser

on:Amex, Mastercard, Discover whatever. When you get a new credit card you also get a secure internet browser to install on your computer or internet phone. Everything’s highly encrypted. Whatever you come across online that accepts your credit card for payment you press the buy button on the browser and that’s it. No need to enter credit card or any details. Not secure enough? Another solution. A secure url managed by the credit card company that acts as web navigator where merchants submit their sites. Customer surfs the web and makes payment instantly of any product available online.
FindExcuse.com

on:Why isn’t there a website where you can get excuses for all sorts of situations you can find yourself into? Sometimes you only have a few minutes to think of a good one to say and can’t get your friends on the phone. The excuses must be ranked according to how well they work.
The idea is to give people the extra option to marry online if they want to. Make online civil marriages as legally binding as the ones performed at the mayor’s office. It’s becoming all the more common to meet people online and spend hours chatting on the net and form real relationships, so why not give people the option to marry online if they want to? The benefits are reduced costs, faster planning and an opportunity for new virtual-wedding businesses to develop. We could describe these web weddings in one word ‘Webdings’.
Webdings will probably result in an increase in cross-border weddings. To prevent fake international marriages done for immigration purposes only, the couple will have to submit to the authorities of the country they wish to reside a chronological resume of their online relationship which will have to have a duration of at least a couple of years.
I think it is an interesting concept and the public debate about it should start online.
YouTube Dictionary

on:I think an online multi-language Video Dictionary is still missing from the web. Text definitions should be replaced with voice and image definitions. An online dictionary where users upload video definitions of words using images, video clips and presentations. Since it would require large storage capacity, I thought You Tube would be the ideal platform for it.
Could you live without the internet?

on:Before you answer yes or no, take a few seconds to consider the deal (I would appreciate it if you can also leave a comment to explain your choice). Here’s the deal. You are instantly handed as much money as you want in return for giving up use of the internet in your life. You are free to fill up the amount on a blank check with enough space on it to add as many digits and zeros as you like. You become filthy rich in a few seconds if you take the money. But no internet any more! Do you take the money and give up use of the internet?
How to make Google smarter
Posted April 30, 2009
on:Google ranks the web by popularity. Wouldn’t it be great if we could rank the web by intelligence or other attributes? People’s IQ is measured in tests, why not measure the content of websites similarly and then filter search results accordingly?
Google probably has the brains and resources to offer such service in the future. For example, if I do a keyword search for ‘subprime market tips’, I want to filter the display of my search results so that I get the websites with most intelligent content only and not those with the most popular content. I know it sounds nice but people might say it’s not possible to do. Google succeeded as a search engine because it was smarter due to the accuracy of its searches. Why not add intelligence or other attributes in the display of its searches?
